Burmese Hintha Bird Shaped Betel Box that originates from Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma). They are shaped like the Hintha bird (or Hamsa), a sacred goose associated with royalty and prosperity. They are crafted from lacquered wood and metal, then tiled and embellished with high-relief decoration known as thayo. The surface is encrusted with color glass or gemstones and pieces of mirror to create a shimmering effect. They were used to hold eel nut for offerings in Buddhist monasteries or during ceremonies.
