- History: The zombie legend originally appeared in folklore from Haiti and Africa. The original “zombies” were recently deceased individuals who were brought back to life by an evil sorcerer, who would then control their every move and use them as servants to do their bidding. The modern zombie, depicted as an undead monster with a hunger for brains, was popularized by films of the 60s and 70s, most notably those by George A. Romero.
